Game #112 Nats go for a duo of sweeps in 2023

The Washington Nationals are going for their second sweep of 2023. If it were to happen, the Nats would go into the final 50-games of the season on quite the roll as the team heads to Philly for a 4-game series to finish this road trip.

Yesterday’s game was a pleasant surprise with Joan Adon activated for the spot start due to Trevor Williams remaining on leave for a death in his family. Adon had a perfect game going for 5 2/3 innings until he was victimized on a bloop single and then an infield single followed by a 3-run homer tainted what was the best pitching performance of the season — and it all came from the most unlikely pitcher on this 2023 season.

In this season finale against the Reds, the Nats still won’t have Williams and will go with Jake Irvin. The Reds will have the MLB debut for Lyon Richardson, a right-hander, who was a star in Double-A for the Reds with a 2.15 ERA in 15 starts.

β€œIt was awesome to see [Joan Adon] go out there, understand what he was trying to do and attack hitters, and do it well. Today, for me, was a perfect example of what he really can do. If he stays engaged, I can see him helping us win games here.”
