Game #12 has Ohtani and Gray on the mound!

The Washington Nationals won a thriller last night against the Angels. Any time you have to face Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani in a game, it is going to be must see TV. Last night, Nats’ pitching held them hitless and struck them out five times combined. While Anthony Rendon was scratched from the lineup, with a bruise on his shoulder, we might see him tonight.

It is Josiah Gray who faces another No. 1 pitcher on the opposing team again as he matches up with Ohtani in this game. Certainly we have seen that Gray can go toe-to-toe with any pitcher when he has all of his pitches working.

Manager Dave Martinez was not feeling well yesterday and sat out the game in favor ofbench coach Tim Bogar who did a great job taking over the managing duties in last night’s win, and Martinez is back in the dugout tonight. There will be a new face as Jeter Downs was activated as Ildemaro Vargas was placed on the 10-day IL with a shoulder strain that he suffered on dive on defense.

Here are your Nationals starting pitcher’s ERAs through yesterday’s game:

No. 5 Starter: Chad Kuhl 8.10 ERA
No. 4 Starter: Patrick Corbin 7.71
No. 3 Starter: Josiah Gray 4.91
No. 2 Starter: Trevor Williams 4.35
No. 1 Starter: MacKenzie Gore 2.38

Again, Gray is pitching tonight, and MacKenzie Gore gets the start tomorrow for the finale in Anaheim. It’s a late afternoon game for the Nats, and after the game they will fly back to D.C. and enjoy a Thursday day-off.
