Game #142 Angelos vs. Lerner

MLB photo

This could be the final countdown on Angelos vs. Lerner on the field and in the courtrooms. The owners of the Orioles and Nationals have been embroiled in legal battles for over a decade. On the field, not so much in any battles of significance in the hyped Battle of the Beltways. In the long back-and-forth over MASN annual TV rights, the Lerners could hand over the legal wranglings to new ownership if the rumored sale of the Nats goes through, essentially ending the drama between the Angelos and Lerner families.

The Orioles are rising from four consecutive years of at least 108 loss seasons (annualized), and now are competing for a Wild Card spot. But the O’s just fell into a 3-6 funk that quickly pushed them 5 ½ games out of the competition. The team from Baltimore desperately needs to beat the Nats, tonight and tomorrow to keep any slim chances of the postseason with only 22 games remaining for them.

With no chances of the Nats making the 2022 postseason, they can disrupt the O’s plans for October as the spoiler. That makes this a two-game series to keep an eye on.

Tim Kurkjian will toss out the ceremonial first pitch – for the first time at an MLB park
tonight at this game. The long-time ESPN baseball analyst is now a Hall-of-Famer as a media member. Kurkjian grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland and went to the University of Maryland.
