Game #75 Max Scherzer enters as the stopper!

After two losses in a row, Max Scherzer enters today’s game for the Washington Nationals in his familiar role as the stopper. We saw back-to-back uninspiring starts by both Jon Lester and Patrick Corbin. We saw two middle of the order Nats’ batters chase pitches and seemingly thwart the opposing pitchers’ plan of giving up walks. It was describing by more than a few as “frustrating” losses. These are the games the Washington Nationals have to win.

The only reason the team is still in second place is because every other team behind them has been playing worse. But the Nats must take care of business themselves.

Today, the Nats will arguably face the best pitcher in the Marlins’ rotation in the form of Sandy Alcantara. Sure, his record is 4-6 and his ERA is 2.93, but he pitches tough in his home stadium.

The Nats and manager Dave Martinez have to figure out a way to win this game and split this four game series then head back to Washington for a key homestand.

The Nats received some more injury news that Erick Fedde was put on the 10-day IL with an oblique injury and he will be replaced by Andres Machado on the roster. Fedde was scheduled to start tomorrow against the Mets.
