The Nationals have made several roster moves today; most notably moving Tommy Milone to the bullpen, and Jefry Rodriguez to take Milone’s start tonight against the Marlins. In the second game of this three game series, the Nationals are hopeful to continue with their improved starting pitching they have received the last two games which the Nats won.
It is expected that in order to make room for JRod that Jeremy Hellickson will be moved to the 10-day DL with a wrist sprain. Trevor Gott was sent back to AAA for Jimmy Cordero.
This is also revocable waiver claim time of year and the Nationals could trade some players like Gio Gonzalez and Daniel Murphy as well as relievers. Ken Rosenthal confirmed what we wrote yesterday that the Nats were set to make a decision on placing players on revocable waivers. It does not mean they will trade anyone.
Speaking of relievers, Kelvin Herrera threw a 15-pitch sim inning today off the mound. Stephen Strasburg threw his bullpen session (approximately 45 pitches) and if he feels well tomorrow the Nationals could start Stras on Tuesday against the Phillies. If Strasburg is not ready, Milone will start Tuesday.
With the Marlins starting a lefty, Wei-Yin Chen, the Nationals will play Michael Taylor and rest Adam Eaton tonight. Chen has a 10.27 ERA on the road this season.
