A spirited comeback snuffed by a TOOTBLAN

The Nationals lost 6-4 in a game where they looked ready to tie it up. Gio Gonzalez gave up 4 runs before most people got to their seats. Gonzalez gave up 6 runs in all, and then the Nats chipped away. The team from Washington got the score to 6-4 with one out and runners on 3rd and 2nd base with the winning run in the batter’s box in the top of the 9th inning.

Here was how the game ended: Brian Goodwin bounced out deep to 1st base, and you expect Adam Lind to score easily from 3rd base. Instead Lind stayed on 3rd and Trea Turner broke for 3rd base which resulted in a rundown TOOTBLAN to end the game. Frustrating loss.

The highlights were few. Treinen with a clean 1-2-3 seventh inning. Bryce Harper returned from a groin tweak and went 2-3 with a home run and an RBI single.  Jayson Werth had 2 hits and raised his batting average to .300.
