UPDATED: Giolito sent to MiLB Camp! The Yankees travel to Viera as Tanaka and Strasburg face-off 5:05pm 3/23/16

UPDATED 2:20PM: Lucas Giolito was reassigned to Minor League camp. It was was expected to happen but we hoped later than sooner.  Giolito left a lasting impression with a dominant pitching performance against the Mets “A” team. Nats fans will have to wait a little longer to see Gio Grande pitch with the Nats “A” team again.

There are just 12 days remaining before Opening Day, and the Nats enjoyed a rare Spring off-day yesterday with some light workouts and golf, and some barbeques. The Yankees will make their one trip to Viera as they go from the Gulf side in Tampa Florida to the Atlantic Coast side in Viera.  The bus ride according to Google is 2 hours 4 minutes for the 132.5 mile journey, and that is without hitting traffic on Route 4 eastbound while averaging a driving speed of 63.86mph. Note: That seems like a high rate of speed on Fiske Blvd and Stadium Parkway.

Masahiro Tanaka gets the start for the Yankees and in the smallest of sample sizes he has faced 22 batters on this current Nationals Roster and the results were:Batting Avg: 0.158 [6 / 38], BABIP: 0.240, FIP: 3.777, K%: 28.94, BB%: 0.00
11 Strikeouts, 6 Singles, 2 Home Runs. The 2 HRs belong to Daniel Murphy and Bryce Harper. Harper, Ramos and CRob are all a career 1-3 against Tanaka. Ben Revere has faced Tanaka the most and is 1-8. Ryan Zimmerman, Danny Espinosa and Michael Taylor are all hitless against Tanaka.

Tanaka throws 6 pitches which includes the 4-seamer at 93mph and the sinker, along with a slider, curveball, cutter and his favorite pitch which is a modified splitter.

Stephen Strasburg starts for the Washington Nationals, and here is his Spring Training 2016 stats: 9 innings pitched, 5 earned runs and his WHIP is 1.667 which includes 5 walks and 10 strikeouts. Strasburg’s Spring Training ERA is 5.00 in his 3 starts, and the plan today is to get him ramped up to 5 innings.
