In-Game in Miami. Mr. Hialeah (GioG) for the Nats vs. Cosart

The Nats are 71-68 entering this game today vs. the Marlins in Miami.  Gio Gonzalez will get to pitch in front of his hometown family and fans and Trea Turner from up the road will also have a contingent of family and friends in attendance.

With the day-off yesterday, many of the Nats relaxed on the golf course and doing some fishing and taking their minds off of the disastrous series that ended on Wednesday.

Bryce Harper wasn’t even 9 years old when the world changed on 9-11-01.  Glad he reminded us all the significance of what happened 14 years ago today.

Jarred Cosart who the Nats are familiar with pitches for the Marlins in this 7:05 game.  He is a pitcher who throws the cutter as his primary pitch and lives and dies by it and he can put some velo on it which makes him unique as it will travel at speeds of 94mph to 97+.  He throws it usually about 60% of the time and his knuckle curveball is his only breaking pitch which he throws about 25% of the time 80mph and then he mixes in a few sinkers and changeups.  He likes to pitch on the outside and don’t expect many pitches inside.  You beat him by going oppo.

Nats who have hit Cosart well are Jayson Werth with a .667 BA and HR, and RZim at .400 and Desi, Espi and Ramos are all at .333.  Rendon is at .250 with a HR.  Players who have struggled are Esco at 0-8 and Lobaton 1-5.  Fun stat of the day is Desi has drawn 3 walks against Cosart in 9 plate appearances giving him a .556 OBP.

One roster move today, Taylor Jordan joins the Nats active roster.  Not sure if he will be used out of the bullpen or a “spot” start.

Lineups with Ryan Zimmerman still out:

  1. Werth LF
  2. Rendon 2B
  3. Harper RF
  4. Escobar 3B
  5. Desi SS
  6. Ramos C
  7. MAT CF
  8. TyMo 1B
  9. Gio P
