The Nationals needed a win tonight to get this homestand started the right way, and Patrick Corbin and his teammates delivered with a 7-2 win. Corbin almost got through his outing with no runs surrendered, but a doubleplay that was not turned scored the only blemish on his statline as his ERA ratcheted down to a 3.05 ERA with only one earned run over six innings. For the Nats offense, sure, they could have scored more runs as Howie Kendrick stranded 9 runners tonight, but his teammates picked him up.
The Nationals bullpen came through when the game was closer, and a good job by Fernando Rodney, Daniel Hudson, and Javy Guerra on a no-drama bullpen night. The top of the order saw power from Trea Turner and Adam Eaton for five hits and two walks to go with their home runs that each put on the board, and Yan Gomes had another good night and he had a home run as part of his two hits. Anthony Rendon had a RISP hit with two walks, and Juan Soto had four walks.
The Nats 86th win moved their Magic # to 3 against the Cubs and it is down to 2 against the Mets who lost tonight and it is down to 1 against the Phillies.
