Game #113 With 50-games remaining in the regular season, Aces on the mound!

This is the second game of the doubleheader, and features two dueling aces on the mound. Max Scherzer pitches for the Nationals and lefty Sean Newcomb for the Braves. The last time Newcomb pitched he was at 133-pitches and 1-out away from a no-hitter. The 134th pitch of his outing was a single. The Braves gave Newcomb an extra 4-days of rest after that astronomical workload, and here we are in the nightcap of this doubleheader. The Nationals took the first game decisively.

Technically the Braves bullpen gave up 8-runs because Kolby Allard entered the game in the 3rd inning as a reliever and he gave up 4-runs and Shane Carle gave up 4-runs himself. The Nationals also stressed the Braves relievers who threw a lot of pitches with Allard at 43, Jackson at 36, Carle at 29, and Venters at 11.

Many times, doubleheaders are battles of attrition. We will have to see how each squad looks tonight. It will also be interesting to see who rests tonight.
