Game #9 gives Trevor Williams his second start

Will it surprise anyone that the Washington Nationals will face another lefty tonight? Yes it is Trevor Williams for the Nats and lefty Austin Gomber for the Rockies. Hopefully the Nats can repeat their success from last night against Gomber in this game.

Of course Williams has to pitch better than he did against Tampa, and it’s been a mixed bag of success for him in his three career starts in Colorado. In 2019, Williams was good 7.0 innings with no home runs, no walks, and six strikeouts. The Nats’ right-hander certainly doesn’t want to repeat what he did in Colorado. You always want to learn from your mistakes, but what did Williams do in particular to pitch a great game in 2019? Hopefully he knows the answer to that and can replicate that success in this game.

Here are your Nationals starting pitcher’s ERAs through yesterday’s game:

No. 5 Starter: Patrick Corbin 8.00 ERA
No. 4 Starter: Chad Kuhl 7.20
No. 3 Starter: Trevor Williams 5.40
No. 2 Starter: Josiah Gray 4.91
No. 1 Starter: MacKenzie Gore 2.38

The numbers are trending better for the Nats’ starters and who would have thunk that the starting pitcher’s ERA would improve in Colorado? Hopefully Williams can follow Gray’s lead on bettering what he did in his first start.

Here is your Baseball Savant Statcast link for the game.
