Game #124 There was a time when Fedde and Ray were in the same farm system!

There will be a few roster moves tonight as Erick Fedde comes off of the IL and will start tonight in Seattle. The Washington Nationals mad to move a pitcher off of the roster, and it turned out to be Tyler Clippard who was DFA’d. Manager Dave Martinez already said that Cory Abbott would not stay in the starting rotation, and would move to the bullpen. Also, Tres Barrera was sent back to Triple-A and changed places with Riley Adams.

Lefty ace Robbie Ray starts tonight for the Mariners, and he is the reigning AL Cy Young winner as well as an All-Star. What some don’t know is Ray was once a Nationals farmhand, and actually was traded months before Fedde was drafted by the Nats. Ray was traded to Seattle with former Nats Ian Krol and Steve Lombardozzi for Doug Fister before the 2014 season. Ray had just 11 games in Double-A Harrisburg with a 3.72 ERA when the Nats decided to package him up in the Fister trade. Detroit didn’t hold on to Ray too long and after 3-years with the Diamondbacks he turned into an All-Star and an ace and stayed until he was flipped to Toronto before free agency where he won the Cy and parlayed that into a 5 year deal for $23 million a year.

If Ray was the one who got away, it was at a time where he was not seen as a top prospect, and even the Tigers did not get much for him in their quick flip. The Diamondbacks are the ones who developed Ray into a star, and they did that while he was on their MLB roster.

Meanwhile, back in Nationals Park, the Bad Bunny concert is the event of the night in D.C. On the same night, Top Gun Maverick was made available for rent on streaming services and fans have plenty to do before first pitch at 10:10 pm in the east.
