Game #77 Patrick Corbin gets a “new look” defense behind him!

The statistics say that Patrick Corbin has been victimized the most by the defense behind him, and tonight, manager Dave Martinez is putting in the best defense he has, and to be honest, besides Victor Robles in centerfield, that is not a great defense. Yes, Lane Thomas in leftfield, and Alcides Escobar replacing Luis Garcia, are upgrades on paper. The last time that Escobar started a game for the Washington Nationals was last month on May 31.

With this alignment, the offense is not the best on paper, but this is a good test to see once and for all if Corbin has anything left in his arm. First off, he is facing a Pirates offense that is not great on the road (.214 batting average) and their OBP against lefties is much weaker than they are versus right-handed pitchers.

The Nats won in a come-from-behind game and for a team with no walk-offs, last night marked the latest point for a come-from-behind win in the eighth inning with two outs.
