Drew Mendoza Stays Hot in Wednesday’s MiLB Recap

It was a full day of games and everything proceeded as normal. The starting pitchers were Bryan Caceres (Single-A), Michael Cuevas (High-A), Luis Reyes (AA), and Jordan Weems (AAA).

Class-A Fredericksburg “FredNats” Nationals

Andrew Alvarez stole the show out of the pen once again, striking out six in three scoreless innings; however, the damage was already done. The offense was gifted all three of their runs on errors and they couldn’t score two more to tie the game. Pretty uneventful game besides Alvarez’s performance and a two-hit day for Sammy Infante. FredNats lose 5-3. The FredNats keep struggling as they’ve lost five of their last six including tonight.

High-A Wilmington Blue Rocks

After not hitting a home run for the first month and a half of the season, Drew Mendoza hit two in as many days! Mendoza, Yasel Antuna, and Ricardo Mendez accounted for all six of Wilmington’s runs tonight with two RBIs each. Michael Cuevas turned in a solid start and the bullpen was nails. Blue Rocks win 6-2.

Double-A Harrisburg Senators

Luis Reyes and Alex Troop split the grunt of the workload on the mound – tossing six combined innings – and they were exceptional. The Senators offense could only scratch one run on 12 hits, leaving nine runners on base. Their one run came in the top of the 9th, via a Brady Lindsly RBI single, to tie the game. Matt Brill came in to preserve the tie, but he was unsuccessful. Brill gave up a walk-off three run homer to Pedro Castellanos, his second of the game. Sens lose 4-1.

Triple-A Rochester Red Wings

All the scoring in the Red Wings game came on two swings. Darick Hall of the IronPigs hit a three-run gopher ball in the 3rd, then Andrew Stevenson singled home a run. Lucius Fox had a three-hit game including a triple and his OPS is up to .920 in Triple-A. Besides that swing from Hall, the pitching staff was scoreless, but they were collectively shaky issuing seven walks. Wings drop another one 3-1.

Farm System final notes 🎶

The Nats’ minor league system had another not so great night. One bright spot is that Jackson Cluff – a top prospect who struggled mightily to start the season – has a hit in five of his last seven games. Good to see him finding some holes.
