Drew Millas and Jackson Cluff Show Out in Sunday’s MiLB Recap

Wilmington finally got a game in after going three days without playing. The rest of the system went as scheduled and played some good baseball.

Class-A Fredericksburg “FredNats” Nationals

The FredNats came our firing with an RBI double from Jeremy De La Rosa in the 3rd, then a three spot in the next inning. T.J. White and Viandel Pena singled home a run, and  Yoander Rivero scored on a balk. The back-end of the bullpen allowed four runs and Fredericksburg’s hitters couldn’t respond as they lost a close one 6-5. Jose Ferrer gave up his first runs of the season coming on a two-run homer in the 8th inning. His scoreless innings streak comes to an end at 14 and his ERA is now 1.20.

High-A Wilmington Blue Rocks

The Blue Rocks picked up their game that was postponed in the 3rd inning yesterday. Tim Cate threw the grunt of the game going 4 1/3 innings and he was promising. He scattered six hits while allowing one run and no walks. Israel Pineda broke the 2-2 tie in the top of the 9th with a double to left scoring Ricardo Mendez.  Zack Brzykcy came in for the last two outs of the game and earned the save, his fourth of the season. Wilmington wins the first game of the day 3-2. The second game was a pitcher’s duel down to the end. Seth Shuman twirled five scoreless with four strikeouts and the bullpen did their job for the rest of the game. The offense only tallied five hits, but were able to score three in the 9th inning and win the ball game 4-1.

Double-A Harrisburg Senators

The offense came to play today in Harrisburg. They scored 12 runs on 17 hits and six starters had multi-hit days. Drew Millas had a three hit day and is now 6 for his last 13 with the Senators. Jackson Cluff is still struggling mightily with swings & misses, but he now has a hit in four of his last six games. Nice to see him find some success. It was a big day at the plate, but I won’t let that over shadow the tremendous effort from the pitching staff today. Ronald Herrera started and went six innings of one run ball with eight strikeouts. Coming out of the bullpen was Alex Troop, Matt Cronin, and Matt Brill and they were all lights out. Sens win big 12-1.

Triple-A Rochester Red Wings

The Wings just keep winning. NINE IN A ROW!!! This one went into extras and they were able to pull it out after a four run top of the 10th. Chris Herrmann and Andrew Young both turned in three-hit days and the latter hit a two-run homer. The bullpen was exceptional once again after the starting pitcher failed to get out of the 4th inning due to some errors. Jackson Tetreault saw his ERA improve to 3.86, as he had no earned runs on his record in this game. In a thriller of an extra inning game, Rochester won 7-4.

Farm System final notes 🎶

The Nats’ minor league affiliates went 4-1 today.
