Game #46 Stephen Strasburg finishes this series

After the earlier conclusion to this afternoon’s suspended game from last night, both teams meet again for a seven inning conclusion to the series in Washington, D.C. this evening. The Washington Nationals have Stephen Strasburg going in this game to build upon his solid start over the weekend.

The Reds will pitch righty Sonny Gray in this one, and Nats’ manager Dave Martinez will go with Luis Garcia starting at second base tonight. The youngster made a huge pinch-hitting impact in the first game with a triple that was part of the game winning tally to take the game earlier today.

It is Josh Harrison getting a rest in this evening’s game, and Yan Gomes will catch this game to get Alex Avila off of his feet. With Daniel Hudson and Brad Hand pitching in the first game today, Martinez will have to piece together his bullpen.

Once again the Nats watched Tanner Rainey struggle and he was saddled with the only three runs the Reds scored. The Nats had the ability with Rainey on the COVID-IL list to send him on a rehab assignment but chose not to. This is a problem as Rainey came into the game with a 5-run lead in the 8th inning, and it forced Martinez to lean on Huddy and Hand to seal the win. Kyle Finnegan also pitched in the earlier game, but you hope Strasburg can pitch a complete game (7 innings) in this one.
