Game #57 is an audition for next year

When manager Dave Martinez talked about the future, he spoke optimistically about the All-Star and MVP candidates on his roster next year. He also spoke about wanting to manage long-term for this Washington Nationals team.

There are just four games remaining in this season, and for some players like Jake Noll, Andrew Stevenson, Yadiel Hernandez, and a few others, this is a showcase for them. There are bench spots available that are up for grabs.

The Mets are statistically still in the hunt for the playoffs, but they are a loss away from elimination. Maybe they were a bigger disappointment due to their results. At least the Nationals have shown that in a regular 162-game season they can win it all from 12-games under .500. The Mets spent money in the off-season to plug holes, and they still did not win.

With the lefty David Peterson on the mound, the Nats will go with a right-handed dominant lineup.  The Nats have their own New York lefty on the mound with Syracuse native, Patrick Corbin, pitching for the home team.
