Game #137 Cy Young matchup deGrom and Scherzer again!

On Opening Day, Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer were matched up at the beginning when there was no way of knowing the middle or the ending. We still do not know the ending, but we know the middle and everything through game number 136. Who would have thought that Scherzer’s season would be at a point where we have to wonder if he can go at 100 percent. Normally a deGrom/Scherzer matchup would be a battle of aces, and now we have to wonder which Scherzer shows up tonight.

Three weeks ago the Nats knocked out deGrom in the 5th inning after scoring three unearned runs off of him. The Nats won that game in a battle of the bullpens, and if the Nats lost that game the Mets would have moved ahead of the Nationals in the standings. Three weeks later, the standings in the NL East are much different. The Mets are 3-games over .500 coming into this game.

Where do we go from here nobody knows. The games will be played, and there are 25 beyond the completion of this game. The Mets have clinched the season series between these two teams already with a 6-11 record with these next two games to go. No team in the NL East has clinched anything for the postseason.

The Nats have added Wilmer Difo and Michael A. Taylor to the active roster making it 34 players total.
