The Nats won this game in a laugher to even the series 2-2 as Anibal Sanchez delivered on the mound and Matt Adams with the bat. Adams crush two homers and finished with 7 RBIs for nearly half the team’s 15 runs. Every position player reached base safely, and Sanchez once again pitched great since returning from the 10-day IL with another game of two earned run or less. Sanchez gave up a home run in the first inning then only gave up one more the rest of the way for his six innings.
The offense poured the runs on the spot starter for the Diamondbacks and the rest of their bullpen. Adam Eaton was on-base all five times today with three hits of the fifteen the Nats put up today.
“It means a lot having my dad in the stands,” Adams said. “Three years ago, we made it a thing that no matter where we’re at, he comes out for Father’s Day. So it’s something special to be able to have a game like this, a career-high in RBIs and have him in the stands.”
While the Nats split this 4-game series against a good team, that is the formula to success to beat up on bad teams and .500 against the good teams in the way you plan it in the offseason. Unfortunately the Nats need to win most games. With the way this series set-up with Max Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg, and Anibal Sanchez against Robbie Ray, rookie Taylor Clarke and a bullpen arm, the hope was the Nats would win those three and drop the game against Zack Greinke — and it almost worked to plan except for Strasburg’s stinker yesterday.
