Game #6 Nats travel to the World Champs in Ft. Myers, Florida

The Washington Nationals have one of those “rise and shine” early morning bus rides to a Spring Training game. This time it is clear across the Everglades to the Gulf Coast of Florida in Ft. Myers, Florida to face the World Champion Boston Red Sox. Yesterday the Nationals faced the Houston Astros so they will have faced the last two World Series champs in back-to-back days. The Nats bus will leave around 7 am for the 128 mile ride that will take about 2 ½ hours. Does that sound familiar? The Nats just made a ride like that to Disney World to face the Braves.

The Nats plan on sending Max Scherzer to the mound as he gets ramped up in stamina, and he should pitch 3 to 4 innings in this outing. For this game, Kurt Suzuki will catch Max Scherzer. The Nats will send a contingent of players similar to what we saw on the Disney road trip with Victor Robles, Juan Soto, Carter Kieboom and Jake Noll who will all be in the starting lineup.

For the Red Sox, they will start the right-handed Hector Velazquez in this afternoon game. None of the Nats players have faced Velazquez before, and that is because the 30-year-old has only pitched in 11 games in his MLB career.

One player we will not see today is Ryan Zimmerman due to a reported illness. For those keeping track, Zimmerman has not played in a game as to this point. Maybe tomorrow.

“He’s doing good, all his workouts are good,” manager Dave Martinez said. “He’s been running the bases, actually been running the bases on his own quite a bit, so he looks good. He really does. Now we just got to get him feeling healthy and get him in there.”
