After a complete game win in Game 1 of this doubleheader behind a Max Scherzer 3-run performance, the Nationals going into the nightcap with rookie Jefry Rodriguez. The Cubs will pitch another lefty, Cole Hamels, in the second game which gives manager Dave Martinez to go more right-handed.

There was a pre-game induction of Jayson Werth in the Nationals’ Ring of Honor. It was a well-done ceremony with a tribute through the years shown on a video. Werth profusely thanked the Lerner family who are the principal owners of the Nationals as well as he thanked his former teammates and the fans, and Werth thanked two of his great managers in Dusty Baker and Charlie Manuel. The Nationals presented Jayson with an oversized photo of the Game 4 walk-off home run signed by all of his teammates as well as a camouflaged rocking chair.

The Nationals open this game 2-games under .500 and will try to put a stake in the heart of the Cubs if the Nationals can win this 4-game series.
