With an NL Central race to the finish between the Cubs, Cardinals and Brewers, the Nationals continue to disrupt the pennant races with wins like last night that struck a blow to the Brewers odds. With last night’s spectacular comeback win by the Nats, they are back to the .500 mark, and today’s game will determine the winner of this series.

Originally, Max Scherzer was scheduled for today, but the Nats brass decided to pitch rookie Jefry Rodriguez today and give Max Scherzer an extra rest day. JRod threw a 6-inning shutout in his last start. He will face-off against the Brewers’ Junior Guerra who is a righty struggling to keep his spot in the Brewers rotation. Guerra was just knocked out of his last start at the 1 1/3 inning mark after allowing 6 earnies and this was part of Guerra’s August slide.

“I just keep doing Juan Soto things,” said Juan Soto after last night’s game.

This early afternoon game is scheduled to begin a little more than 12 hours after last night’s game ended. There is not much rest for the weary, and we are now on line-up watch to see if Anthony Rendon is benched due to an extreme lack of hustle on this play which allowed a run to score on starter Stephen Strasburg.
