The Washington Nationals won this game by a final score of 2-to-1 to improve to 3-4-1 in the Grapefruit League. Victor Robles‘ solo home run was the difference in this game along with Max Scherzer‘s pitching and Trea Turner scored the first run of the game in front of a Howie Kendrick RBI double.
Perhaps the side-show that everyone was waiting for was Max Scherzer against Tim Tebow which was a complete mismatch in terms of pitcher against hitter. Scherzer mowed him down in 3 pitches and now has K’d Tebow 3 times throwing 10 pitches and as twitter follower @CBinDC pointed out that was one pitch from an Immaculate Owning.
“[Max Scherzer is] nasty,” Tim Tebow said after the game. “He’s really good. That’s awesome to be able to see one of the best in the league, one of the best doing it a long time. It’s great work for me.”

Good pitching took advantage of the Mets offense today. The Mets only accumulated 3-hits in the entire game and they were shutout for 8 innings. All Nats regulars either got on-base by hits or walks, and Andrew Stevenson and Victor Robles continued their hot hitting. With Trea Turner’s two walks today he pushed his OBP (on-base-percentage) up to .545 for the Spring.
Max Scherzer threw a perfect 3.0 innings followed by 2.0 scoreless innings from Erick Fedde and nice outings by Tim Collins, Roman Mendez and Wander Suero. The only run was given up by Chris Smith on a 9th inning home run and he earned the Save.
On a side-note, Trea Turner continues to play well in this Spring Training venue. It all started for him during his senior year of high school in a Florida state playoff game where he was a home run short of a cycle off of the late Jose Fernandez, and last year Trea hit two home runs in his last game there.
