Max Scherzer and Jayson Werth both return from the disabled list to lead the Washington Nationals to victory against the second-place Miami Marlins.
In this game, Max Scherzer would be able to go 7.0 full innings giving up just one run while striking out 10 Marlins. Scherzer finished with a pitch count at 100. Perhaps the the best part of the night was watching the match-up of the month between Cy-Scherzer and Giancarlo Stanton who is stalking 60 home runs go at it and Scherzer got the better of him with a doubleplay ball and 2 strikeouts. Stanton finished 0-for-3 and was pulled early when the game got out-of-hand.
The ballpark went crazy when Jayson Werth hit a tape measure 425 foot home run to the top of Section 105 just 2 rows from the concourse. It was a no-doubter the split second the ball left the bat.
There were many offensive stars in the game that began with Jayson Werth and Howie Kendrick had a 3-RBI bases clearing triple to blow the game open. Matt Wieters had a 3-hit night and every Nats position starter had at least one hit in the game. Wilmer Difo and Howie Kendrick along with Werth had 2-hits apiece. The Nats had 13-hits and 4 walks on the evening.
The Nationals blew the game open in the 6th inning with 6 runs scored, and the Nats cruised to a 11-2 win to move to a season’s best 28 games over .500.
