The Nats were in position to steal this game in the 9th inning with the tying runs on-base and Daniel Murphy at the plate, but it was not meant to be. The Nationals who scored 10.33 runs per game during their previous 3 games could only manage 1 run in this game with a reconfigured line-up.
The highlight of tonight’s game turned out to be Gio’s 6 scoreless innings, but unfortunately it was the 3 runs he gave up int he 1st inning was all the White Sox needed. The Nats lose 3-1 with the only Nats run coming from a Daniel Murphy home run.
The Nationals in the 6th inning had their best chance on offense. Jose Lobaton and Michael Taylor had back-to-back singles with no outs. Lobaton raced to 3rd base and got in safely and Michael Taylor took 2nd on the throw to 3rd. The inning quickly unraveled as Heisey then grounded to shortstop and Lobaton broke for the plate and was thrown out and Michael Taylor never advanced to 3rd base. Jayson Werth then grounded into an inning ending doubleplay.
The Nats would make some noise in the 9th inning with 2 outs as Jayson Werth got on base with an error followed by a Bryce Harper single. With Daniel Murphy up to bat with a chance to change the game, he flied out to leftfield.
While the game was in progress, the 2016 Draft was ‘live’ and the Nats chose Carter Kieboom with pick #28 and with pick #29 RHP Dane Dunning form the Florida Gators. Kieboom is the younger brother of Nats Double-A catcher Spencer Kieboom. In the 2nd round with pick #58, the Washington Nationals chose Sheldon Neuse.
