#Nats win with a Roark shutout & Drew/Werth HRs & Papelbon Save #5: Post Game

On a night where Bryce Harper had an 0-fer you worry that it was an “L” for the Nats in the standings but on this night it was Stephen Drew and Jayson Werth stepped up with Tanner Roark and it was in fact a “W” in the standings. Drew and Werth were the offensive stars and Tanner Roark bounced back with a very good start and really got in a groove in innings 5, 6 & 7 where he used the swingback 2-seamer on the lefties to perfection.

Jonathan Papelbon with Save #5 in 5 appearances gave up 1 hit, but was quickly erased on a doubleplay to end the game.  The Nats improve to 6-1 which continues a record for the Nationals franchise for the best start in team history.

The 4 game series with Atlanta wraps up tomorrow with a 4:05pm and some uncertainty on who starts for the Washington Nationals. If Stephen Strasburg doesn’t start, then it should be Yusmeiro Petit with the spot start.

The Nats were scoreless until the 4th when Stephen Drew pulled a ball over the Right-CF out-of-town scoreboard. After the Drew HR, Daniel Murphy worked a walk and then Jayson Werth unloaded on a middle of the plate letter high pitch and sent it into the Red Porch seats!

A team win as everyone contributed.
