Game #53 #Nats begin weekend inter-league series in Oakland

On the other side of the Bay Bridge, the Washington Nationals travel from San Francisco over to their American League neighbor in Oakland for a weekend inter-league series. The A’s will throw their best pitcher, Andrew Triggs, on Friday and on Sunday they have Sonny Gray who is still having some struggles.

The good news for the Nationals is that Triggs who has the best road ERA in the league  at 0.72 but has a home ERA of 4.09.  The Nationals will have Stephen Strasburg pitching tonight in the series opener, and Strasburg’s trend is that he pitches better on the road and currently has a road ERA of 2.70.

Triggs has improved his cutter and slider this season as his main pitches. There are only two Nationals who have faced the right-handed Triggs before.

The Nationals will once again be without Bryce Harper who will be out of the lineup for the second game of his three game suspension he began serving on Wednesday. With the off-day yesterday, Harper will have four days away from the baseball field.
