Game #97 Roark back in a familiar role: Game Thread

The stopper role has been a familiar spot for Tanner Roark who is now tied with Stephen Strasburg in team efficiency in their last 10 appearances where the team’s record in Roark’s last 10 appearances is 9-1 since his start on May 30th.

In that 9-1 run with Roark, he has been the stopper after a loss 5 times in that stretch. The Nationals will look to Roark tonight to once again be the stopper.

The Padres have scheduled right-hander Luis Perdomo to face the Nats tonight. Perdomo has given up only 3 earned runs or fewer in 6 starts this season, but he has been inconsistent which has led to his 7.36 ERA and a 3-4 record. Padres manager Andy Green’s decision for Perdomo is to rely more on his sinker, and his 60% groundball ball-in-play results over the past 30 days which is the best rate in the National League.

Sinkerball pitchers can be thwarted by a speedy line-up but also batters who hit the ball with hard contact as well as batters who can elevate balls low in the zone. This will be the first time Perdomo will face the Nationals.

Here is Tanner Roark’s stats against the Padres:
